Honesty through Sports. This photo was taken during the UAAP Opening. It was the first game of UP vs DLSU and NU vs FEU for the second game. The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe performed during the opening ceremonies as host university. Unfortunately, aside from the opening production number they still managed to do this unlikely behavior. Look at these 5 UST Salinggawi Members, so unbecoming of a Catholic school student.I think they better review what they were taught because it seems like they don't practice what they preach. It seems like that these 5 guys want to be famous? Well, let us help them become INFAMOUS!!! I just hope you are happy of your notoriety...Should I say good work guys? and the gall kasi of doing it without even hiding their faces or at least not posting it sa net for public consumption. If I would do this to their school, I'd make sure that it stayed in the confines of whatever place that is mine.

Regarding the supposed "rebuttal" made by the SDT member, I agree with him/her on some parts, particularly on...

...UP has always been "in-your-face" when it comes to critiquing friends and opponents alike. In internet language, we are as WYSIWYG as you can get. There's a huge difference between "in-your-face" (note: the "SO?" banner which they absolutely abhor was made specifically with the intent to openly annoy them and knock them off their high horses), and "hide-inside-your-dominican-
robes-and-pretend-to-be-royal-and-pontifical-while-flipping-
the-other-team-off" style which they so eloquently demonstrated in that pic. You hate UP for our arrogance and angst? Get used to it! We're here to stay and we're not going to apologize for something we blatantly do and are intentionally showing to everyone. Look inside your backyard. It's not as pristine as you would like us to believe. It's called hypocrisy, my dear Gawi member. Look it up in the dictionary.
...Yes we make fun of the lackluster performance of the SDT this year, which pales in comparison with the excellence you've shown in the previous years (that was a compliment, dear Thomasians, in case you couldn't recognize it). Yes, we guffaw at the ridiculous costume that made your troop look like sperms from hell. Yes we roll-on-the floor with unabashed laughter at the yellow wigs that belong more in New Orleans in Mardi Gras, or in Remedios Circle in Pride parade or whatever. But, as I said earlier... It's IN YOUR FACE! We make no excuses for doing so.
...As for the argument that those puerile Thomasians never really intended for those pics to come out, well, that just proves my point. If you're gonna do something distasteful, own up to it. And by the way, we don't have religion classes in UP pero may Catholic church, Protestant Church at Islamic Center kami sa loob. Yung Iglesia ni Cristo main headquarters katapat ng gym namin. Malapit lang din yung mga Opus Dei study centers sa UP.
Hindi lang kasi Catholic ang religion sa Pilipinas....

UST is a university, not a church, not a convent. so hindi niu naman dapat iexpect na all people from UST should be God-like and holy. True, that Christian values and virtues are being taught to us. But we did not choose to be enrolled in UST just for that. it is still proper and quality education that we're after.
im not saying na balewala ang values na tinuturo sa USTe, it's just that, maxado kcng malaking issue pag Thomasians ang gumagawa ng ganian eeh. sa USTe lng ba may Catholics? ^^
UST is a Catholic university, that is the only difference. we are enrolled in that Catholic university, that is the only difference. Katulad niu lng pu kme.. nagkakamali din. hindi pu kami perpekto.

There's a fine line between supporters bashing each other and the participants themselves creating tension against the competition. In this case, it was a handful of UST's dancers that initiated that tension, and any sensible human being would know that it was done in a rather distasteful manner. These people should know better because as cheer-"leaders," they are supposed to be role models when it comes to school spirit, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Obviously, they have failed to do that when they decided to blatantly attack their arch-rivals on a personal level. Thanks to them, the rivalry probably became even more bitter than it should.

I won't, can't and shan't be biased because based from the picture, Thomasians will really be generalized as 'that'. I've read so many blogs, write-ups, i-tell-you-spread gossips created and uploaded by people from the UP, saying obnoxious exaggerated things about gawi (It's probably because of last year's cheerdance.). I don't think these people would do this out of nothing at all. To the one who posted this, keep this to yourself. I know for a fact that you are not a "loser" as what these people are saying. Besides, life is just not about graduating from a good university. This goes out to all who paid attention and excuse to this post extravagantly. Thank you. |

this is because we now consider this little thing called FEEDBACK. we have to encode a language (in this case, THE picture) then, put the message in a medium (multiply.com) and then, the moment we recieve it, we INTERPRET IT. and that, my friend will be different from one person to another. that's where ust's problem come from. they did not expect this kind of feedback. they thought we'd see it, and we wont care.
now, contextualize this transactional model to what each of us felt.you are all smart kids. you can figure it out from here. see if you're in aristotle's old school linear model. or the one that has something that comes back to haunt the source down. much love :) |

| im gonna say this again because i really want to let UST know that this is not the way you act towards other people's logo...and that this is only ME speaking.......its a different feeling especially when i saw how proud my UST kid sister was i was actually very humbled by her when she knew theyd lose but shed still sing their song, el shaddaish as it was. and then today i find that pic. they ruined my sister's pride for her school...posting that pic was my only way of letting people know that i wont tolerate it. UST teaches fine, fine lessons academically, they actually had jun cruz reyes for a writing workshop at their school the day cheering was on. jun cruz reyes UTOS NG HARI guy and not a lot of people knew about it because everyone's roads led to that gym. that pic managed to overlap the greatness that they have academically or otherwise. |

| its the bragging rights ateh..they dont call it bragging rights for nothing....its actually included when they give away the trophies. we have one year's worth of this thing so...its either put up or shut up. its all about school pride, and as we all know with whatever debate there is, the value laden propositions are always the hardest to establish because you take it from one perspective, and it's right...take it from another one and its right as well....
. this one is an example of that...and it goes on to be a viscious cycle that will not stem from the determination of the act as right or wrong. but with THAT PICTURE's goal and motivation. what was it trying to accomplish? it was a statement, that's for sure. when we figure out the statement, either we react or be apathetic. in your case, you were apathetic, (as with your statement, correct me if im wrong, but some meant who cares, right?). in my case, i reacted. you see....
in aristotle's model of communication, the most basic of them all, there are 3 parts in a message:: speaker, the speech and the audience.
however, like all models, this is a minimalist abstraction of the reality it attempts to reproduce. the reality of most communication systems is more complex. and if communication were that simple, civilization will not evolve to the advanced society that it is today.
this is because we now consider this little thing called FEEDBACK. we have to encode a language (in this case, THE picture) then, put the message in a medium (multiply.com) and then, the moment we recieve it, we INTERPRET IT. and that, my friend will be different from one person to another. that's where ust's problem come from. they did not expect this kind of feedback. they thought we'd see it, and we wont care.
now, contextualize this transactional model to what each of us felt.you are all smart kids. you can figure it out from here. see if you're in aristotle's old school linear model. or the one that has something that comes back to haunt the source down. much love :) didn't you just contradict what you said? Thomasians actually had different interpretations of the picture (some thought it was no big deal, others thought it was a shame), but they saw the angst of the other party which was created by the picture. There are rules of conduct in every school, whether it's UP, UST or whatever, and for every wrongdoing there is a corresponding punishment. Hazing in UP is acknowledge and condemn by the students, by virtue of their SC, and these acts are acted upon by the admin. Even cheating, when caught, merits a failing grade. Hindi lng yun dahil nagkatuwaan nila or nablow up ung issue dahil kinalat sa blog. What the 5/6 guys did was just wrong and I'm sure what they did does not conform to the rules of conduct of their alma mater. Therefore, punishment corresponding to what they did should be given. I guess, what was done via this blog is to make people aware of the issue so that action will be dealt with properly, as we see now. It was never a matter of school wars or school generalizations. :)
Kung may updates man dun, sana may magpost. :) and kung may apology man directly from the perpetrators, mas nakakagaan ng loob pag manggagaling sa kanila.
oh, and regarding the cheerdance... UP Pep's performance was definitely better than their previous ones... haven't seen SDT's though, so I won't judge. :) |

I think it is time to let this go. People squabbling with other people from other school is normal, but making such a BIG issue from this... er... issue (lol. Nawalan ng term.. Anyway...) is normal too. However, no matter how normal things like this become, it isn't a reason for people to continue quarreling about it.

teka, analyze natin bakit maraming school ang galit sa UST.. (pati Adamson may proof na nandaya daw ang UST ngaun).. kasi naman si Josh Pagtalunan (wow pare immortalized ka na!), 2005 judge ng UST na GAWI member, nagbigay ng 70+ scores sa lahat ng schools.. kaya maraming galit kasi GARAPALAN ung pandadaya.. kaya nanalo UST....
and add these five people to the equation = alam naman natin na may may mga taong kinakahiya ng mga schoolmates nila sa bawat university...
so what i am trying to say is we should stop being hypocrites and admit that not all people in our respective universities are "well-behaved".. and if these people keep on "having fun" or cheat yung school name ung madadamay.. there is such a thing as karma...
In fairness, magagaling talaga ang SDT. nanalo naman kayo 2002-2004 at 2006 na walang daya di ba? acknowledged yon napapalakpak kami sa mga moves niyo...kaya niyo naman ulitin iyon. maganda ung cheerdance rivalry basta walang dayaan...

| umm, i'm from UP...masakit para sa amin (UP community) to see that pic...I understand the sentiments of the Thomasians na "nadamay"...pero kasi, iba talaga yung impact na ginawa nung 5 or 6 individuals na yun..at member pa raw ng gawi...maybe the UPIANS are overreacting pero hindi niyo kami masisisi...Ok lang sana kung harapan yung pambabastos eh...matatanggap pa namin yun..after all...It was supposed to be a healthy competition. Pero ang nangyari kasi...TINIRA ANG UP NG PATALIKOD....and that is more infuriating...And FYI, kung ang UP ay nang-aasar in every huge assemblies like the UAAP Opening and/or the CDC, hanggang dun lang yun..at the end pinapalakpakan namin lahat ng schools--especially UST on that matter at CDC--kasi kung wala naman yung rival schools wala ring sense yung competition...we always make sure na "bigyang-pugay" yung mga "kalaban" namin. At the end of every competition, the UP community ALWAYS and WILL CONTINUE on doing something respectful manalo matalo man kami...and that is respecting the other schools, be it UST, Ateneo, La Salle, FEU, Adamson, NU or UE...
